Making Purchases with a Negative Account Balance
Guidelines for Purchases with a Negative Food Service Account Balance
Meal purchases
Any student who goes through the breakfast or lunch line is entitled to receive a full meal that meets the USDA’s School Breakfast and National School Lunch Programs guidelines regardless of their account balance.
Even if a student has a food service account balance that is more than negative fifteen dollars (-$20.00), the student may still take the meal but the student’s account will incur the following charges:
- Students who receive reduced price meals will be charged $.30 for breakfast and $.40 for lunch
- Students who pay full price for meals will be charged $1.50 breakfast & $2.80 lunch in the elementary school or $1.75 breakfast & $3.00 lunch in the middle school and high school.
Ala Carte Purchases
When an account reaches negative fifteen dollars (-$20.00), each student on that account will have a lock put on ala carte purchases. The student will only be allowed to purchase a full meal until the lock is taken off. If a student comes to the point of sale with ala carte items on the tray, those items will be taken off of the tray.
The stop on ala carte purchases will be lifted when there is money in the student’s account. After an account has been locked, it may take up to 48 hours for the ala carte purchases to be turned back on.
